In search of Vampire Recommendations

As I vocalized on the first day of Professor Wolff’s Intro to Writing module, I have had an obsession with vampires since I was one for Halloween in first grade. Honestly, my professional goal in life has always been to popularize vampires through writing thrilling vampire literature. Obviously, I’m missing the bandwagon – vampires are currently dwelling all over the bestseller list. When I was a freshman in college and notified people of my obsession with vampires they looked at me like I had six heads. When I say it now (after the Twilight, True Blood craze) hardly anybody thinks twice about it.
So, even though these other authors squashed my dreams and individuality, I still plan on indulging in this new vampire craze. Does anyone have any good vampire books that they would like to recommend to me? I have read Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Saga and Charlaine Harris’s True Blood. I am also a fan of the satirical writing of Christopher Moore– Bloodsucking Fiends and You Suck.

I have never dipped into any of the Rice novels. I am open to opinions, fellow vampire fans- if you’re out there.

Jodi Picoult – My Favorite Author

Jodi Picoult - Bestselling Author
Jodi Picoult – Bestselling Author

If I absolutely had to choose a favorite fiction author, I would have to select Jodi Picoult. I love her style of writing. She usually takes a complex and controversial issue and writes from the perspective of all characters involved. There is always a groundbreaking, unforeseen twist involved.

Here is a list of Picoult’s novels:

Songs of the Humpback Whale (1992)
Harvesting the Heart (1994)
Picture Perfect (1995)
Mercy (1996)
The Pact (1998)
Keeping Faith (1999)
Plain Truth (2000)
Salem Falls (2001)
Perfect Match (2002)
Second Glance (2003)
My Sister’s Keeper (2004)
Vanishing Acts (2005)
The Tenth Circle (2006)
Nineteen Minutes (2007)
Change of Heart (2008)
Handle With Care (2009)

My personal favorite of these novels is My Sister’s Keeper the story of a girl who was genetically engineered to provide her sister with blood, marrow, and organs. After many years of being used to save her sister, she seeks medical emancipation from her parents to gain the rights to her own body. This is an intense story with many complicated emotions and exciting plot twists. I definitely recommend it to you all.

Here is an informative website on Jodi Picoult. It provides a lot of cool links to videos, interviews, etc. and features book club discussion questions for each of her novels.
